Committees?

There are four Committees that meet before the convention:

  • Platform

  • Credentials

  • Rules and Order of Business

  • Permanent Organization

Committee Membership:

Chair and Co-Chair: Appointed by RNC Chair.

1 male and 1 female delegate elected by each state delegation. Generally, no alternates serve on committees and each delegate can only serve on one committee. Substantive work of convention committees takes place week prior to Convention.

Platform:

Drafts and adopts the Republican Party Platform detailing the values, ideals, and positions of the Republican Party. This committee is the first to meet and takes up the most time. Members of this committee should plan on arriving in Milwaukee the week before the convention begins.

Credentials:

Hears appeals on delegate contests and certifies the names of the delegates and alternate delegates as the Permanent Roll of the Convention. Members of this committee should plan on arriving in Milwaukee around Wednesday, July 10.

Rules and the Order of Business:

Considers amendments to and adopts the Rules of the Republican Party, which contain the rules for the election and government of the Republican National Committee; the procedures of the Republican National Convention; and the process for the election, selection, allocation, and binding of delegates to the next national convention. Members of this committee should plan on arriving in Milwaukee around Wednesday, July 10.

Committee on Permanent Organization:

Forwards the list of convention officers to the convention delegates for ratification. This committee requires the least amount of time.

Committee Schedules:

The committee schedule will be released mid-June but committees meet before the convention begins. Which means you may need to be in Milwaukee by Wednesday, July 17.
